Introduction to Shri Pitar Ji Chalisa | Pitar Ji Chalisa Meaning

Pitar Ji Chalisa - Ancestor Worship

The Shri Pitar Ji Chalisa is a devotional hymn of 40 verses dedicated to the Pitru Devtas - our departed ancestors. In Hindu tradition, honoring ancestors (Pitru) is considered one of the most important duties (Pitru Rin) that every person must fulfill.

According to scriptures, ancestors reside in Pitru Loka and their blessings are essential for the welfare of their descendants. When ancestors are pleased, they bestow prosperity, good health, and success. When neglected, Pitru Dosh can cause various problems in life.

This Chalisa is especially powerful during Pitru Paksha (the fortnight dedicated to ancestors) but can be recited anytime to honor and seek blessings from departed family members.
