Introduction to Shri Tulsi Chalisa | Tulsi Chalisa Meaning

Tulsi Chalisa - Sacred Basil - तुलसी माता

The Shri Tulsi Chalisa is a devotional hymn of 40 verses dedicated to Tulsi Devi (Holy Basil), the sacred plant worshipped as a goddess in Hinduism. She is the incarnation of Vrinda Devi, beloved of Lord Vishnu.

Tulsi is considered the most sacred plant in Hindu tradition. Every Hindu household has a Tulsi Chaura (altar) where the plant is kept and worshipped daily. No Vishnu puja is complete without Tulsi leaves.

Reciting this Chalisa invokes Tulsi Mata's blessings for household protection, marital bliss, health, spiritual merit, and Lord Vishnu's grace.

Sacred Plant | Tulsi Mata Mahima

Vrinda Devi's Story

Vrinda was a devoted wife of the demon Jalandhar. Her chastity made Jalandhar invincible. When Lord Vishnu had to break her devotion to defeat Jalandhar, He blessed her to become the sacred Tulsi plant, forever dear to Him.

Vishnu's Beloved

Tulsi leaves are essential in all Vishnu worship. Lord Vishnu is called Tulsidas (servant of Tulsi) because of His love for her. A rosary (mala) made of Tulsi wood is the most sacred for Vaishnavas.

Household Guardian

Tulsi purifies the home environment physically and spiritually. Where Tulsi grows, negative energies cannot enter. Her presence brings Lakshmi (prosperity) and removes poverty.
