हिंदी: एक समय की बात है, जब भगवान श्री कृष्ण द्वारका में निवास करते थे। द्वारका के एक ब्राह्मण पुत्र ने अज्ञानवश एक भयंकर पाप कर दिया। उसने अपने पिता की हत्या कर दी और उसकी लाश को गंगा नदी में प्रवाहित कर दिया। यह पाप इतना भयंकर था कि उसकी आत्मा को शांति नहीं मिल रही थी।
ब्राह्मण पुत्र ने भगवान कृष्ण की शरण ली और उनसे पूछा कि इस पाप से कैसे मुक्ति मिलेगी। भगवान कृष्ण ने उसे पापमोचनी एकादशी का व्रत करने की सलाह दी। उन्होंने कहा कि कार्तिक महीने की शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी को इस व्रत का पालन करने से सभी पापों से मुक्ति मिलती है।
English: Once upon a time, when Lord Krishna resided in Dwarka, a Brahmin's son committed a terrible sin in ignorance. He killed his father and threw his body into the Ganges river. This sin was so grave that his soul found no peace.
The Brahmin's son sought refuge with Lord Krishna and asked how he could be liberated from this sin. Lord Krishna advised him to observe the Papmochani Ekadashi fast. He said that observing this fast on the Ekadashi of the bright fortnight in the month of Kartik liberates one from all sins.
