📖 Karva Chauth Katha (करवा चौथ कथा)
Story (In English)
First Story - Tale of Veeravati:
In ancient times, there lived a beautiful girl named Veeravati who had seven loving brothers. After marriage, she moved to her husband's house. On her first Karva Chauth, she came to her maternal home while observing the fast.
In the evening, Veeravati became very hungry, but the moon had not yet risen. Her seven brothers could not bear to see her suffering. They lit a lamp behind a tree to create an illusion of the moon. Believing it to be the moon, Veeravati broke her fast.
As soon as she took the first morsel, news came that her husband had fallen ill. With the second bite, his condition worsened. With the third bite, her husband died.
Veeravati immediately prayed to Goddess Parvati. The compassionate Goddess explained that this happened because she broke her fast by being deceived by the false moon. By Goddess's grace, the next year Veeravati observed the fast with complete devotion and her husband was restored to life.
Second Story - Karva and Chudamani:
In a city lived a devoted wife named Karva and her dear friend Chudamani. Both observed the Karva Chauth fast together.
Chudamani's husband went to bathe in the river where a crocodile caught him. Chudamani sought Karva's help. Karva tied the crocodile with a raw thread and went to Yamraj (God of Death).
Karva told Yamraj to take the crocodile to hell as it had caught her friend's husband. When Yamraj refused, Karva threatened to curse him.
Yamraj, defeated by Karva's virtue of devotion to her husband and friendship, sent the crocodile to hell. Chudamani's husband was saved. Thus, the power of true friendship and wifely devotion was proven.
