The Shri Khatu Shyam Chalisa is a devotional hymn of 40 verses dedicated to Khatu Shyam Ji, also known as Barbarik. He is worshipped as Shyam Baba and is famous as "Haare Ka Sahara" (Support of the Defeated) - one who never lets his devotees down.
Khatu Shyam was originally Barbarik, the grandson of Bhima and son of Ghatotkacha. He was the most powerful warrior who could end any war in minutes with his three infallible arrows. Before the Mahabharata war, Krishna asked for his head as charity (daan), which Barbarik willingly gave.
