The Shri Shakambhari Chalisa is a devotional hymn of 40 verses dedicated to Shakambhari Devi, the goddess of vegetation, fruits, and vegetables. Her name derives from "Shaka" (vegetables) and "Ambhari" (one who bears/nourishes).
According to Devi Bhagavata Purana, during a devastating hundred-year drought, Goddess Durga took the form of Shakambhari and produced fruits and vegetables from her own body to feed the starving world.
Reciting this Chalisa invokes her blessings for abundance, good harvests, food security, health, and prosperity. She is especially worshipped by farmers and those connected to agriculture.
